On Friday 17 April year 10, 11 and 12 hairdressing students presented their skills to a packed audience of friends and family and local hair salons. The evening raised over £200 for the SMA
(Spinal Muscular Atrophy) charity – this years 6th form chosen charity.
The students presented a range of creative looks on the catwalk as part of an assessment which was judged by local hair salon owners on their technical skills.

The students all had to recreate a 1980’s hair style using authentic tools, products and equipment.
They firstly had to research the 1980’s, investigating key events and fashion trends.
The following students won the 1980’s categories;
6th form Gabby Gardner won
Year 11 – Jazmine Archer – Farrands
Year 10 – Claudia Mitchell
Jazmine Archer – Farrands won the coveted Best in Show award.
The audience were treated to a 1980’s music gig by ‘Neon’ who played some classic tracks such as Aha’s Take on Me and Bon Jovi’s Living on a Prayer.
The students teacher, Jo Gardiner said ‘I was so proud at the standard of work that the students demonstrated. A salon owner told me that they had stylists that weren’t producing as good work as some of our students!’
