As part of the Olympic Legacy of getting more people involved in sport, having opportunities to visit and use some of the venues created for the 2012 London Olympics HDHS were very lucky to be nominated as one of the Essex schools invited to a 2 day School Festival at the Lee Valley White Water Centre.
This venue was purpose built for canoeing and kayaking events.
On July 9th 7 of our Year 12 had a fantastic opportunity to try out the white water course for themselves. Some were a little daunted by the thought of travelling in an inflatable boat, with no method of being secured to it, down the course. What they didn’t expect was that they would actually have to jump in the rapids, float down part of the course and show that they could then swim to the side before being allowed to get onto the course.
It was a fabulous day, the sun shone and the students all enjoyed an experience that they may never have again.
