Dear Parent/Carer,
I hope that you and your family had a restful and enjoyable summer break.
I am writing in response to the extensive media coverage of potential school closures caused by reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) being present in school buildings.
Prior to the summer break, Sigma Trust commissioned a survey of our site in response to the national concerns about RAAC at the time. This survey identified the presence of a small amount of RAAC in the former public reception/foyer area of the sports hall. The area in question will therefore be closed off to students until mitigation works have taken place. The sports hall itself and its changing rooms are not affected.
This means that, in line with both the Local Authority and Department for Education guidance, HDHS will be able to reopen as planned next week.
We look forward to welcoming our Year 7, 12 and 13 students back on Monday 4th September at 8.35am, Years 8 and 9 on Tuesday 5th September at 8.35am and Years 10 and 11 at 9.15am on Tuesday 5th September.
Yours faithfully,
Kate Finch
