Dan Freedman Visit

Dan Freedman Visit
February 9, 2017 hdhsadmin

Year 7 pupils were treated to a visit of a best-selling children’s author at the school. Dan Freedman, writer of the Jamie Johnson football series of books, talked to pupils about his love for football and how he was determined to be involved with the game, even though his ambition of becoming a player wasn’t realised. He spoke of his job of press officer for the FA, where he travelled with the England team to several World Cups and his current association as editor with the Premier League and FIFA. He explained how, when he couldn’t find any football fiction in the bookshops for his nephew, he decided to write his own books.

Pupils asked him questions about who had been an influence on his life, what he would do if he wasn’t an author, and which was his favourite book of the series to read, among many others.

Library manager Andrew Dace said, ‘It was a real pleasure to have Dan visit the school again. Our pupils were very attentive towards Dan and asked some very good questions. I believe his message to overcome setbacks and strive to become better at what you do was well received. His visit has also enthused pupils to read more’.
