April 20, 2016 hdhsadmin

On the 17th of April, Harwich and Dovercourt High School triumphed in the Regional finals of the Rotary Clubs’ Youth Speaks competition, after winning the district finals the week before. Ella Humphris, (Chairperson) Emily Carman (Main Speaker) and Elliot Jackson (Proposer of the Vote of Thanks) attended Bedford High School for Girls and competed against other teams ranging from 15 to 18 years old. Being the youngest of the senior groups to compete, Ella Humphris says that “it was a great day and really tested our ability.” Not only did Harwich and Dovercourt High School win the best overall team, meaning they advance to the National competition in Preston, Ella Humphris also won “Best Chairperson” and Emily Carman won “Best Main Speaker”- a testament to the teams overall hard work.

Their 10 minute presentation explored the importance of being moralistic; of appeasing the words you say with the corresponding actions and highlighted the moral compass of today. The team now look forward to progressing further to Nationals on the 7th of May.
