In the first round of the North East Essex Costal Schools League Competition the year 7 Rugby team were able to run up an 8 try victory in their first ever competitive match for the school. Manager Mr Richard Gambrell said of his team –

Fantastic first game of Rugby from the Year 7’s. They took on a tough looking Colne team who brought over two teams. After not only a captains but match of the match performance from Ioan and multiple tries from Alex and Harvey we ran out 8-0 winners. Every single player played exceptionally well. Parents on the slide line said it was like watching a team who had played for years. Most of the boys had never played rugby before coming to secondary school and to put in a performance like they did against an ever organised Colne team was something for everyone to be proud of. Very good start to the season and we look forward to the next game.

The year 8s faced a tougher challenge losing 12 tries to 3 against a very large, talented, physical Colne side. Today’s game saw Harwich come up against the team that are likely to win the Championship and Harwich played a very structured game and deserved their 3 tries. Man of the match went to Jack James for a great individual try and some superb work around the field. Marvin Upson, Owen Priestnall and Josh Wells took the runner up man of the match for their outstanding efforts and persistence against a very dominant Colne team.
