Windsor Learning Community ‘SMILE’ Team

Windsor Learning Community ‘SMILE’ Team
February 19, 2018 hdhsadmin
The Windsor Learning Community “SMILE” team at Harwich and Dovercourt High School continue to link the local Community with the school, this time by spending an hour taking part in fun activities with residents at Lime Court Care Home for the elderly.
Both the Year 7-9 students and the residents enjoyed taking part in activities together including balloon keep up, basketball and bat and ball.
The students were an absolute credit to the Community and I looked on with pride as they interacted with a variety of residents.
Some started quietly but as they grew in confidence, all were playing, laughing and smiling and were disappointed when the session came to an end.
The star of the show was Cerys Steward who had an incredible way with all the residents, spending time with many of them, engaging in conversation and playing with the biggest smile.
The residents were sad to see the students go but were pleased when we informed them we would be back another day
One lady whilst playing keep the balloon in the air said “I love this” and that comment alone proves how important and valuable these visits are.
These same students return in 2 months time, with the other half of the smile team attending next month and then 2 months after that.
