Pupils at Harwich & Dovercourt High School were treated to spooky, unusual tales by an award winning children’s author this week. Peter Murray, writer of the Mokee Joe series and Bonebreaker trilogy of books, visited us recently.
The much sought after author spoke to year 7 and 8 students about what inspired him to write and told them about each book and its background, including how the spectacular cover artwork was designed and commissioned.
Library manager Andrew Dace said; ‘Our pupils really enjoyed listening to Peter and had lots of questions for him. He has enthused them to read more. I have had a huge upsurge of interest in his titles since he visited.
Peter told me that a number of pupils have contacted him by email, eager to know more about him and his books. He has definitely inspired some of them to go on and write their own stories’.
Before becoming an author, Peter gained a degree an Metallurgy at Cambridge University, worked in the petro-chemical industry in Dubai, and was Assistant Headmaster at the prestigious Cheam School in Surrey, whose luminaries include Prince Charles and Prince Phillip.
